Analyzing the effectiveness of teaching history using the source-based method in promoting a conceptual understanding of history

Abstract

: In the present era, active teaching methods based on cognitive and constructivist theories are emphasized, with the main assumption being that the more students participate in education, the more learning will occur.to teach effectively and achieve educational goals. One of the most important tools for a history teacher in education is historical sources. The source-based teaching method helps teachers to create a better understanding of history in learners. Methods: In this research, an attempt has been made to examine and scrutinize the book of Yamini's History using the historical method and a review study with the aim of explaining its position among Iranian historical sources, as well as its importance in source-based teaching. The following questions are raised: How can the source-based method be applied in history teaching? And how can this teaching method be effective? Findings: The results of this study, which was conducted using a descriptive-analytical and qualitative method, show that teaching history, especially in secondary school, can be effective with a source-based method that increases learners' understanding and historical literacy Conclusion: The results show that the source-based teaching method, if carried out through collaborative work in small groups, is practical and effective in teaching history
